Sewing machines send message of love and support
Recently Project S.A.V.E. was privileged to join with Grace Community Church, who provided funding for shipping a 40-ft. container to Sierra Leone and Liberia, Africa.
This shipment was somewhat different than what we normally send. They are establishing a medical clinic, school and church in the area of Tissana, Sierra Leone as well as sharing supplies with a medical clinic in Liberia.
Three hundred young women have been rescued from prostitution and are being schooled and taught marketable trades. When meeting with their African contact, Saal Joseph, he ask if we could get non-electric machines to teach the women to sew.
Thanks to generous people in Chico, CA, we were able to send 10 beautiful, working treadle sewing machines as well as many boxes of fabric.
Days before shipping, Pastor Dave Workman received a request from Saal requesting rubber boots for farming projects and Bibles. Grant Stanley of Industrial Supplies gave the church such a reasonable price, they were able to purchase 100 pairs!
The church donated their own pew Bibles and the "Kid's Zone" gathered school supplies and clothing. What a thrill to see all these great supplies on their way to needy people in Africa! Thanks to all the men who worked so diligently loading.
A special thanks to:
Gene and Thelma Scott (they donated 4!)
Grant and Shirley Adams
Carolyn Jones
Kathy Moran
Lori Storm
Diane Donaldson for donating the antique sewing machines.
Gene Scott and Bob Dinger graciously crated all of them for us.
Melanie Birdsell, Sidney Dixon and all her quilting friends gave boxes of fabric.
We so appreciate PHS, Enloe Hospital, Fremont/Rideout Hospitals, Sutter North, Option Care, and many others who donate supplies or finances on a regular basis to Project SAVE.
Without your help these wonderful shipments would never happen. Thank you!
